New Delhi: Ahead of Independence Day, Delhi BJP has started a "tiranga yatra", with members reaching out to residents and urging them to hoist the tricolour in their homes as a mark of respect to freedom fighters. On Monday, the party organised a meeting in Krishna Nagar Assembly, which was led by Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and Union minister of state for corporate affairs Harsh Malhotra. Malhotra said the "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign is an effort to maintain the unity and integrity of the country. "The tricolour teaches us to unite and move forward together. Therefore, to make this campaign successful, all residents should hoist it in their homes for the nation," he added. The party is also adding representatives from local RWAs and business organisations in the campaign, said a senior functionary. Sachdeva said till Independence Day, a series of tricolour rallies are being conducted across the city. The tricolour "symbolises our dedication to the nation and the spirit of national service and it is our duty not to compromise on its dignity", he said. The rally, he added, was "a reminder of the sacrifices made for the honour and pride of the country, and an opportunity to pay tribute to them". "Hoisting the tricolour in every home will ensure respect and gratitude for our freedom fighters," he said. A party functionary said party members and officials will go door to door, interacting with residents and addressing various issues. "With assembly elections on the horizon, the tiranga yatra also serves as a platform for BJP to spread its message and connect with voters," he added.
