Stay Fit team wins Meghalaya Masters TT Team C'ship - The Shillong Times

Shillong, Aug 12: The Meghalaya Veteran Table Tennis Association conducted its yearly Meghalaya Masters TT Team Championships on Saturday as part of commemorations of World Environment Day. The sixth edition of the tournament was held at the JN Indoor Stadium in Polo here. Table tennis players of yesteryear from different districts participated in team events. Seven teams were given green names - Go Green, Save Fuel, Swachh Bharat, Save Trees, Save Water, Save Earth and Protect Nature. Only Stay Fit was more sportily named. The Stay Fit team was led by Gilbert Sohtun. His team mate Arup Nag of Tura was the star of the final as he defeated the captain of Save Earth, Sarwan Gareri in straight sets 3-0 to turn the match in his team's favour. In the end, Stay Fit beat Save Earth 3-2 in the final. Satish Pradhan of Save Water was adjudged Player of the Tournament. Subir Dey was presented with a special award for his "exemplary contribution towards sports in general and football in particular," a press release informed. Nababrata Bhattacharjee, Advisor on the Environment to the Meghalaya Chief Minister and President of the Meghalaya Cricket Association, was the chief guest on the occasion. Others present included Meghalaya Table Tennis Association President Bruce Marak, MVTTA President AG West, MVTTA Secretary Bishu P Joshi, Organising Secretary Santanu Ghosh and MVTTA Treasurer Vijay Thapa, among others.
